12B – A Unique Restaurant Idea

12B Hallway

A girlfriend of mine recently celebrated her birthday at some person’s place. Turns out, this person runs a unique dining concept of running a home restaurant. Actually, this concept is not very new… In fact, it’s very old! This is probably the oldest  form of a restaurant. I remember when my parents ran a (home) restaurant in the basement suite of our house. Unfortunately, it didn’t do very well for my parents as they worked full time jobs and operated the business sporadically. But they had customers ordering take-outs.

Over the years, I’ve heard of other occasions of these type of home businesses. Running a restaurant from home is not as common as, say providing massage therapy or waxing and facial services or running a tailoring business at home. The obvious answer is, because it’s UNCOOL! I remember being slightly… okay, pretty darn embarrassed about my parent’s home restaurant business. Most of these home restaurant businesses are run by various individuals providing traditional recipes to their community. (Alright, this is just my guess, I don’t have any stats or research to back this up… but this statement seems likely.)

12B is different. It’s actually COOL! We had an amazing time, the place was cozy, the service was friendly… It literally felt like being out, but at a close buddy’s. The chef, who wishes to stay anonymous, was so personable and food was fantastic! Did I mention, we had an amazing time? Granted, this may not suit everyone. Not everybody will have the same dining experience at the same restaurant. But if you want to try something new… or old, 12B is worth a try. Also, most of the art on the wall are for sale!

I didn’t initially plan to blog about this experience; as a result, I am not able to provide a list of what we were served. I snapped one picture of the first course of our meal and completely forgot about the rest from eating. Maybe next time, because I’m definitely doing this again! I already feel like Chef and I are friends.
