So I found more searches on my Chinese characters issue by including “virus” in my search and stumbled upon this forum: forums.devshed.com/….help-strange-file-virus-looks-like-chinese-asian-characters-436584…. As I suspected, it has something to do with Acer computers (and I suppose what I saw on my Mac was an extension of the problem in the html files created from the Acer PC).

I’m lazy and haven’t scrolled past the first page on Google when I was looking up why my browser might be displaying Chinese characters. It looks freakish – like a virus or such. It is also annoying because I’m not Chinese and can’t read it! I suspect that it could be a hardware thing since Acer computers are products from China and most Macs are made in China. Also, when things really screw up, you will find this in the page source of a website. But at the moment, I can see it on my desktop browser bar. Other times, it can appear across the browser title bar. *Shrug*
